Overton Schools Adding Behavioral Specialist

Overton County Schools adding a behavioral specialist to give extra attention to the challenge of student behavior during the coming school year.

Director of Schools Donnie Holman said Taylor Howle will come on board to be a resource for teachers who are not used to dealing with increased behavioral issues. He said Howle will travel to all of the district schools and work closely with Supervisor Michelle Nivens at the District Central Office.

“Just student behaviors and helping teachers to understand how to deal with certain situations without having to go through trial and error, trial and error,” Holman said. “Maybe she can, you know, fast-track us onto the right thing at a quicker pace. Stuff like that is what we’re in hopes of.”

Holman said the lack of structure for students during the COVID-19 pandemic could have played a role in changes to student behavior. Holman said he and the school board are very excited about the new position.

“She will be working with some special situations in our school system that need a little extra attention and we’re looking forward to seeing what she can do to help our whole school system,” Holman said.
