Water Outage Planned Wednesday Along Algood’s Mirandy

A planned water outage in Algood Wednesday should help avoid pressure issues long-term along Mirandy Road.

City Administrator Keith Morrison said they will be replacing a pressure reducing valve near Brangus Lane. Morrison said the water line will be shut off at 8:30am.

“Water’s going to be off in the area for at least four hours starting just past Officers Chapel Road and all the way out to the end of our lines out in Paran, Paran Pointe, Presley, Brangus Lane, and those areas are going to be without water for at least four hours is what we’re anticipating,” Morrison said.

Morrison said the outage could last as long as eight hours depending on how the work goes. He said Mirandy Road will go down to one lane, with traffic control starting at the top of the hill to Brangus Lane.

Morrison said the valve has been in place for a long time and is getting harder to repair.

“Without the valve, it’ll blow lines off and cause pressure problems for residents that are beyond that point on the line,” Morrison said. “They’ll get more pressure than their system can contain and it’ll start blowing out pipes if we don’t replace it.”

Morrison said the new valve will also upgrade the fitting with a bypass so water can still get to that area if the main valve fails. He said citizens should not see any change in their water pressure from this new valve.

“It’ll just add some redundancy for us and give us a new valve that, when we do have some issues, we can get parts for,” Morrison said.

He said they are going to dig the hole and prepare for the work on Monday and Tuesday so work can begin immediately on Wednesday.
