Algood City Council will engage a Chattanooga law firm to investigate a new human resources matter.
Attorney Danny Rader said city policy outlines in certain circumstances, an outside attorney should be retained to look into human resources issues. The city will hire Robinson, Smith and Wells, with a total expenditure not to exceed $5,000.
The nature of the matter not shared publicly.
Council also voted to add oversight of real property leases as a power of the City Council. City Administrator Keith Morrison said the city attorney recommended adding the oversight to the city charter.
The issue arose as the council continues discussions with a non-profit about the construction of a soccer complex in Algood.
“The reason for doing this is the request of the soccer complex to do a long-term lease on the property,” Morrison said. “You can’t even consider that without this in there. We need to have this before we address that.”
