Celina’s splash pad nearing completion, but kids are already trying out the new facility.
Mayor Luke Collins said the splash pad is usable now, but it is not yet completed. He said there is still some trim work to do, but kids can currently use certain areas of the splash pad to “get wet and have fun.”
“It’s going to feel great and it already feels great,” Collins said. “A lot of young people have already been using and been enjoying it. It’s been a beautiful addition to our community already, even though its not completed. Once completed it will certainly be a big asset.”
Collins said when the splash pad is complete the city will hold a grand opening. Collins said the grand opening date is unclear due to delays when ordering parts and weather issues, but is expecting the completion date within the next two weeks.
“We’re going to have free popcorn, free drinks, and have a drawing and some lucky child will be the one to cut the ribbon and push the button to get it started,” Collins said. “And all the kids can run out there.
The tennis courts and pickleball courts have been remodeled at Donaldson Park as well. Collins said the city also plans to add another pavilion and basketball court to the park in the near future.
“Donaldson Park is coming along,” Collins said. “It’s a big financial commitment to the city, but it’s worth it. The whole community is enjoying it. We have people coming from, shoot, not just from Celina and Clay County but also from a lot of adjoining counties. So we are happy to be a good neighbor and provide opportunities for those folks, glad to have good visitors.”
