City of Cookeville examining an agreement with Cookeville Regional Medical Center that allows city employees to have a discount for certain services at the hospital’s health clinic on 4th Street.
City Manager James Mills said the agreement had been in place since 2010. He said now that the city is in the process of adjusting its health insurance, they have to revisit the agreement.
“It’s with our attorneys now to make sure that what we’re proposing or what we have been doing we can continue to do,” Mills said. “Just make sure it’s in compliance with all legal requirements.”
Mills said they will wait to make a decision about the next steps until the attorneys complete their analysis and review. He said if the agreement is unable to continue, they still encourage city employees to use the hospital’s health clinic.
Mills said city employees should know that the city council and the city’s administration are doing the best they can to provide quality healthcare insurance. He said part of those efforts is to maintain the costs of those plans.
“It’s a perk that our employees currently enjoy, they get services there at a discounted rate,” Mills said.”But it would still be covered under the employee’s health insurance with the city and they can still use the clinic, and not only that clinic but any clinic in the city that covers Blue Cross Blue Shield.”
