Cummins Falls State Park named one of the top destinations for outdoor enthusiasts by Readers Digest.
Park Manager Ray Cutcher said it makes him proud that there are people who feel that way about the area. He said he believes it is the park’s trails, waterfalls, and sense of adventure that attract people to explore it.
“It’s not something that a majority of people get to do all the time on a regular basis,” Cutcher said. “You know hike along a creek bed, cross the river a couple of times and be at the base of a gorgeous waterfall and get to even be underneath the waterfall and swim in the plunge pool below it. I think that in and of itself is a unique experience for a lot of people.”
Cutcher said he has been blown away by the rise in popularity of the park. He said he attributes it to the park’s commitment to preserving the natural sites and the team who goes about making it happen.
“It’s our mission of Tennessee State Parks, it’s preserved in its natural state and you don’t see any man-made parts other than signs here and there and I think people love that,” Cutcher said. “(…) And of course our team, we’ve assembled a great team at Cummins Falls, and try to take care of our people and work to provide everyone with the best experience they can possibly have.”
Cutcher said he is pleased by the recognition and hopes that it continues to draw people to the park and experience what Cummins Falls has to offer.
“We are thrilled to see Cummins Falls recognized as one of Tennessee’s top outdoor destinations,” said Amy New, President and CEO of the Cookeville/Putnam Co. Chamber of Commerce. “This park is the pinnacle of outdoor experience in the TN park system, giving visitors a chance to immerse themselves in some of the most gorgeous scenery in America.”
