The California-based company Transfer Flow estimates a $60 million dollar economic impact once establishing its Algood warehouse.
The company began in 1983 and manufactures auxiliary and replacement fuel tank systems. CEO and Owner Lisa Johnson said the company will repurpose the previous Wood Tech building for distribution and eventually add production.
“It just really appealed to us that Cookeville with the education system it has, the infrastructure that it has and the other manufactures that we can use for support and resource, it was the right fit,” Johnson said.
Johnson said the company has already started moving into the location. Johnson said the distribution side of the operation should be running sometime this spring.
“We do plan to stay here in our hometown and expand into Tennessee,” Johnson said. “We ship all over the United States, and we know we can get the product to our customers within a day if we are located in your general area. We are excited to see what we can do and how we can grow. We look forward to going to Algood.”
Johnson said a five-year lease has been sign for the location at 230 Wall Avenue that also includes extension options. Johnson said the majority of workers will relocate from California with a handful of local employees.
“We found a place that had a lot of power, so we can definitely grow into that,” Johnson said. “Hopefully by the end of this year, we will start on the manufacturing side. It can be anything from metal fabricating to lasers and freight presses all the way up to painting the product. We are not shy of trying to expand in that same way in Tennessee.”
