City Of Algood Seeking RFQ’s For Tennis Court Upgrades

City of Algood extending the deadline to submit Requests for Qualifications (RFQs) for engineering services for tennis court upgrades.

Parks and Recreation Director Roy Phipps said this work was identified in the city’s recently-established Parks and Recreation Master Plan. He said the RFQs will tell the city what is feasible in terms of the cost to upgrade or even expand its current tennis courts.

“There’s been a lot of community interest in upgrading the tennis courts,” Phipps said. “They need to be resurfaced, the lighting is bad and needs to be upgraded or replaced, probably replaced.”

Phipps said another potential for the work would be to add pickleball courts to the existing facility at Fantasy Park next to the Algood Post Office. Phipps said there is an interest in pickleball, and that he receives calls about it at least twice a week.

Phipps said the original deadline only received one RFQ. He said the city is hopeful they will be able to get more submissions in order to get a better understanding of its next steps. Phipps said the deadline to submit RFQs is now January 31st at 2 p.m.

“And then they’ll tell us what they think will be feasible for us to do and take the next steps,” Phipps said.

Phipps said once they close RFQ submittals, he will present them to the city council to make a decision on what to do moving forward.
