Livingston Alderman Chris Speck Resigns

Livingston Alderman Chris Speck has resigned from his position.

Speck shared his resignation in a letter to Mayor Curtis Hayes Tuesday. Speck said “my wife and I are currently in the process of selling our home in Livingston and moving outside of the city limits this month.”

Speck’s resignation comes just days after former police chief Greg Etheredge stepped down. Speck was not present for the Board of Aldermen meeting on Monday night.

In June, Speck was the alderman who motioned to suspend Etheredge for three-weeks without pay due to the missing money case.

During that meeting, Speck defended Etheredge and said, “I’m very disappointed in the way this has been going about our chief, because there is nobody better that we can find to run our town.”

Etheredge reported at least $27,000 missing from police department last year which lead into an investigation into the department. District Attorney Bryant Dunaway was unable to name a prime suspect due to the deficiencies of the police department.

Dunaway’s office remains involved in an inventory of the department alongside Interim Chief Ray Smith.
