Monterey To Begin Traffic Light Project At Holly And Stratton Intersection

A much anticipated Monterey traffic light project has been approved by the Board of Aldermen.

Mayor Nathan Walker said the work would bring back traffic lights at the Holly Street and Stratton Avenue intersection.

“I know that a lot of Monterey citizens have been concerned about that, because right now, it’s just basically a three-way stop with a flashing light,” Walker said. “So, I think must of us would like to see a return to a red light system there.”

Farley said the project will begin after the contractor places signals at two intersections along Commercial Avenue. That work is set to be completed by next week.

“I believe Commercial Avenue will be wrapping up this week,” Farley said. “Everything is currently operational. I believe now it is just refinishing the area.”

The original light system has been out of service for over a year. It was damaged in an automobile accident. Delays occurred while the city awaited insurance estimates and feedback from TDOT.
