After hearing presentations from the final county departments, Putnam County Budget Committee Chair Ben Rodgers had a message for committee members.
Rodgers said with the requests the county has, it will require additional funding.
“So, we need to start deciding June 9th where we go from there based on the funding we know that we’re going to have and work it out and be diplomatic and just do our job,” Rodgers said.
Monday night’s presentations included the Election Commission, the Health Department and the Maintenance Department. All three requested a new employee.
“Think and ask good questions,” Rodgers said. “If we need somebody to come back in to explain more, there is nothing wrong with thinking of new questions to ask a department head. We just need to let them know that we have more for them.”
The Maintenance Department’s additional position was not included in the proposed budget, bringing the total amount of new positions requested to 21. The library also presented.
At the next meeting on June 9th, Mayor Randy Porter will present a new budget draft based on the requests. Final revenue numbers, the penny rate, fund balance estimates and budget books will also be shared.
