Pothole Issues On Tennessee Ave. Could Be Addressed Through T-DOT Partnership

Some Cookeville residents concerned about potholes along the southern portion of Tennessee Avenue.

Council Member Eric Walker said construction traffic around several new projects are likely part of the problem.

“The biggest thing is is that we’re seeing a lot of potholes,” Walker said. “That was an older road that wasn’t really initially built for that kind of truck traffic so the city is certainly going to have to do something to repair that road.”

Public Works Director Greg Brown said that it would cost some $60,000 to repave the road now that would be dug up anyway during the widening project. He said that for now, they have been going through the area every few days to fill potholes as they can.

The city is exploring a T-DOT partnership to expand a 1,900-foot portion of Tennessee Avenue around the Fed Ex and ready mix concrete facility.

City Council approved the agreement at its meeting Thursday night.
