Overton Schools Increasing Household Connectivity Through Hotspot Program

Underserved Overton County Students can take home free hotspots through a new district program connecting households.

Technology Coordinator Brent Thrasher said some 200 hotspots are available through a free T-Mobile program.

“That’s something that we’ve seen grow over the years as there is more of our content and curriculum is online,” Thrasher said. “That need has grown definitely.”

Thrasher said the connections can be used for the entire school year. Thrasher said the hotspots have unlimited data and can support up to 20 devices in a household.

“We acquired the hotspots through that program, and then, we actually have utilized a program from the FCC which is the Emergency Connectivity Fund,” Thrasher said. “Through that, we were able to get an unlimited data plan.”

Thrasher said students in need can simply communicate with their teacher, who will submit a request form on their behalf.
