Brown Family Park in Celina Put On Hold

A potential pocket park in name of the Brown family at the Celina Square has been put on hold.

Former resident Mel Brown was to donate a small parcel to create the “Brown Family Park.” Mayor Luke Collins said the future of the project is now unknown with Brown recently passing away.

“At this point in time, I do not know, and I wouldn’t think it appropriate at all to say anything to the children,” Collins said. “If they were to ask me and it’s possible that Mel may have had a conversation with them about it and if they ask me obviously I will communicate with them.”

Celina had a verbal agreement with Brown for the donation but lacked an official signature. Collins said Brown was an outstanding man and would still be willing to honor his life with the park.

The land is located at the corner of East Lake Avenue and Highway 52. Initial designs included an ADA compliant bathroom and picnic seating.
