Van Buren County Commissioners received two offers on the vacant BDS property, both roughly half of what the county wanted for the property.
Commissioners discussed marketing options for the sale of its BDS property at its Tuesday night meeting.
Real Estate Broken Melissa Harmon said that she and County Mayor Greg Wilson wanted to market the property at $299,000. She said that after several showings both virtual and in-person, the county received two bids at $150,000 and $160,000.
“So Mayor Wilson felt like it was important for the count to counter these bids,” Harmon said. “And then I would go back and take ti to both people that are making these offers and say ‘County is going to make a counteroffer.’ But it’s up to y’all to decide what your counteroffer is. Or you can send it back to Committee B and let Committee B decide.”
County Commissioners decided to make the counteroffer decision at its next Committee B meeting. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 25th at 5:00 p.m.
Harmon said that both contracts are contingent on the county removing all trash in and around the buildings as well. She said that contingency is a significant amount of work as well.
