Large Boulder Still Blocking Cane Creek Road In Van Buren

T-DOT crews are still working to clear Cane Creek Road in Van Buren County after a large boulder fell from a bluff Tuesday night.

This occurred at log mile 4.5 on Highway 285.

Spokesperson Rae-Anne Bradley said the boulder is roughly 12 to 14 feet long, seven feet tall and seven feet wide. Bradley said the roadway has been closed since 1:00 AM this morning.

She said the boulder is in the middle of the highway, making the route impassible. Bradley said that due to the size and location of the boulder, crews are using an excavator with a jackhammer to break up the boulder.

Bradley said once the boulder can be broken into smaller pieces, the highway can be cleared. She said crews are working now to reopen as quickly and safely as possible.
