Byrdstown Exploring Sewer Extension For Industrial Park Development

The Byrdstown Industrial Development Board wants to explore the possibility of connecting the town’s Industrial Park to the town’s sewer system.

Mayor Sam Gibson requested price quotes from Engineer Nathaniel Green during Monday’s Board of Aldermen meeting. Gibson said the goal would be to recruit a small employer to bring 25-50 new jobs to the community.

“We had an industrial board meeting last Wednesday,” Gibson said. “We got to talking a little bit and got a little more involved. For us to have anything, we’re going to have to have a park with water, sewer and a building.”

Green said he has designs and prices of a similar sewer project in McMinnville that would be a good comparison to share with the Board. Gibson said the price gauge is just the first step of more work since the Industrial Park also lacks a building to house a company.

“You gotta have a building to do that,” Gibson said. “The Industrial Board basically owns the one out here where they were going to put the jail, and I thought if they gave that to the city, we would go out there and level a spot and put us up a building.”

Gibson said the site on Industrial Park Drive has access to Highway 111, which would be a resource for recruiting a business. Gibson said if a building were to be built, it would need to have an 18 foot roof and docks for truck access.

In other business, the Board of Aldermen approved selling a forklift for $1,549 and a Backhoe for $10,000 through sealed bids. Byrdstown also renewed its maintenance agreement for the sewer plant.
