Backpack Assist Ministry To Host 10th Annual Back-To-School Drive

The Backpack Assist Ministry will host its 10th annual Back-to-School celebration.

Coordinator Carleen Benson said that each year the organization takes donations and puts the money towards providing resources to students in White and Van Buren Counties.

“It is an awesome event,” Benson said. “And it’s a community event where everybody gets together and we provide backpacks, school supplies, we provide hygiene items for the children of White and Van Buren County.”

Benson said that the best part of the event is the community all coming together to support its students.

“Y’know young children, Christians, non-Christians, businesses, local government, city officials,” Benson said. “Just everybody pitches in. It’s just 10 years of greatness it really is.”

Benson said they plan on giving out some 800 backpacks, and will continue to give while supplies last.

“These are all brand new supplies,” Benson said. “I order them in bulk, and they get shipped to us. I do buy them locally also from the different stores here in White County. It just always seems to come through. We are truly blessed.”

The Back-to-School celebration is a drive-thru event at the White County High School on Saturday, July 31st at 9 a.m.
