Monterey will re-advertise its vacant codes position after the Board of Aldermen voted to not hire the one candidate that applied.
The motion failed 6-2 Monday with Aldermen Alex Garcia and Amy Martin in favor of the hire. Mayor JJ Reels said the decision was a disappointment.
“We’re having to send people that need building inspection or building permits to Cookeville or the county, and we’re losing that income,” Reels said. “There is a couple of detractors. It is for the safety of Monterey, losing revenue and codes enforcement.”
Reels said Monterey has been without a codes enforcer for about two months and wants the job filled as soon as possible. Reels said advertisements for the position are set to come out this week.
