Putnam County Schools Celebrate End of School

Putnam County Schools celebrate the last day of the school year on Friday.

Director of Schools Corby King said that after a year navigating unprecedented obstacles, he’s thankful for the dedication of his faculty and staff.

“All of our employees–our teachers, our nurses, the bus drivers who were picking students up wearing their masks when it was 100 degrees in August and still doing that in May,” King said. “The maintenance workers who put all of the safety things in place and the work that they did–it took our whole system to do this.”

King said his teachers emphasized the importance of in-person learning for the past year, and recognizes that because Putnam County Schools were able to stay in-person for the year, students and families are better off.

As the year comes to a close and summer begins, King said he hopes his students have fun during their breaks and get ready to come back and learn more next year.

“We know it’s been a trying year for our students as well,” King said. “We all dealt with these challenges, and our students have done the same and they have handled it gracefully. It has been a great year, and just enjoy the summer.”

King said with students participating in summer learning programs, he hopes they both have fun and work hard. King said they’re hoping to close gaps that might have been exacerbated by hybrid learning or any other affect from the pandemic.

Putnam County Schools will start back for the 2021-2022 school year on Tuesday, August 3rd.
