The 20-year blueprint to increase connectivity for cyclists and pedestrians in Spencer is nearing completion.
Liesel Goethert with KCI Technologies has been surveying the community to see what can be improved for residents. Goethert said that roadway crossings, lighting and the distance to destinations were identified as issues.
“Some of the major destinations that folks identified in this community was also their city park,” Goethert said. “The Save A Lot grocery store, as well as the beautiful new farmers market pavilion that they have there. Which is adjacent to their ball field.”
Goethert said the next steps before the study project wraps up in July is to develop the cost estimates to improve access in Spencer. She said once that is determined they will help Spencer identify the best ways to fund the improvements.
“At this next phase of engagement, we’re really asking folks to react to the draft recommended network,” Goethert said. “So our next steps are to refine those recommendations based on the input we receive.”
Spencer received the grant for community transport planning through TDOT’s Rural Planning Initiative. This was free of charge for Spencer and the grant was worth up to $25,000.
