LED street signs will be coming to Livingston after approval by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen Monday night.
The LED street markers will be placed around the courthouse square downtown, replacing the standard green signage. Livingston Downtown Revitalization Chairman Ray Evans said these would be the first signs indicating the four courthouse square streets.
“I would consider it a substantial enhancement of the look and feel of the street name markers around the square being lit at night,” Evans said. “These markers have a shutoff that they don’t operate during the daytime, only in the evening hours.”
Evans said this will be paid for out of the state sales tax rebate fund, and asked for an amount not exceeding $18,000. Evans said the signs would be hung from traffic poles downtown.
“We would also include street name markers for all of the court square streets,” Evans said. “Around the courthouse square, we have East Court Square, West Court Square, et cetera, but we have never had street name markers to delineate those four streets.”
He said this plan for LED street signs around the square was created by Mayor Curtis Hayes and Fire Chief Rocky Dial.
