Mrs. Wanda Maxwell, age 57 of Cookeville died Wednesday January 27 in Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Arrangements are incomplete.
Amanda Chatman, age 24 of Cookeville, her sons, Alexton Henley, age 4, and Braydon Henley, age 3 passed away Tuesday morning January 26 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Arrangements are incomplete.
David Vaughn Welch, 86 of Sparta, Tennessee passed away on Tuesday, January 26 at NHC Healthcare of Sparta. He is survived by his children, Karen Heddleston of Austin, TX, Becky Beahm of Hudson, FL, and David E. Welch of Sydney, OH. No services are planned at this time.
Graveside services and interment for Mrs. Virginia Burris, age 91 of Cookeville, will be held Friday at 11am at the Burris Cemetery. Mrs. Burris died Monday January 25 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
Graveside services for Ernest Leonard Maynard, age 76 of Cookeville, will be held on Friday January 29, 2021 at 1:00pm at the Wallace Anderson Cemetery in Putnam County TN. Ernest Leonard Maynard was born on March 6, 1944 in Silver Point TN, to the late Waymon and Vallie Mai Dunn Maynard. He passed away on January 24, 2021 in Rutherford County TN. He is survived by 1 Son, Michael Maynard of Cookeville, 2 Daughters, Brenda Tompkins of Gainesboro, TN and Phyllis Stapleton of Georgia.
Funeral Service for W J Holmes, age 73 of Bloomington Springs, will be held Friday, January 29, 2021, at 1:00 pm from the chapel of Presley Funeral Home with Sister Peggy Sutton officiating. Interment will follow in the Currys Chapel Cemetery, Granville, Tennessee. He passed from this life on Monday, January 25, 2021, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. W J was born Sunday, April 6, 1947, in Hartsville, Tennessee, and he was the son of the late William Jonah Holmes and the late Ruby Estelle (Sircy) Holmes. W J was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He loved the Lord with all of his heart. W J was a wonderful man, was loved by all that knew him, and he will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Friday, January 29, 2021, at Presley Funeral Home. Funeral Services for Mrs. Joyce Faye Bilbrey, age 66, of Livingston will be conducted 11 a.m., Saturday, January 30 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Bro. Danny Staggs will officiate. Burial to follow in the Overton County Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Joyce passed from this life on Wednesday evening January 27 from the Livingston Regional Medical Center. Joyce was a 1972 graduate of Livingston Academy, and a member of the Church of Christ. She enjoyed reading, watching tv, and her little dog Carter. Her greatest joy was her family and being at home. Joyce leaves behind her husband, Jerry Bruce Bilbrey of Livingston; daughters, Crystal Rominen and husband Derek of Livingston, and Cindy Mullins and husband Jared of Livingston. The family will welcome friends on Friday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. at Speck Funeral Home.
Graveside services for Mary Lee Hensley Guy, age 62 of Sparta, will be held Saturday, January 30 at 11:00 am at Highland Cemetery in Sparta. She passed away January 27 at her residence. She was born April 15, 1958 in Sparta, TN to the late Richard and Martha Ann Marshall Hensley. Mary worked at Red Kap. She is survived by her daughters, Amy Guy and Jamie Dukes.
A memorial service for George Pappas, 84, of Cookeville, is planned for Saturday, January 30th at 11 AM at Heavenly Host Lutheran Church located at 777 South Willow Avenue in Cookeville. Pastor Andrew Smith is officiating. Mr. Pappas passed away on January 16th peacefully at home in his sleep with his wife, daughter and son-in-law by his side. In 1953, George enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, actively serving until 1956 and in the reserves until 1961. George was a professional truck driver, driving for Parco Foods among others. After “retirement” he drove a flower delivery truck which he truly enjoyed. George started chasing Rosi in 1976 and she finally gave in and married him on his birthday in 1981. He always said it was the best present he ever had! When George and Rosi moved from Michigan City to Cookeville in 2004, they felt like they had “hit the jackpot” as their new neighbors quickly became like family. George is survived by his wife and best friend Rosi, daughters Julie Ann (J.D.) Elmquist, Jill (Nick) Landers and Beth (Craig) Brown. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Kindred Hospice for their tender care of George for the last several months, especially Jenni and Nikki.
A celebration of life for Mr. Michael Minor, age 60 of Baxter, will be held January 30th at noon, at Faith Chapel Ministries in Baxter. Mr. Minor passed away on Friday, January 8 at his residence. He was the son of Denver Minor and Jumina Lee Collingsworth Page. He was an explosive technician, a member of Faith Chapel Ministries and a Veteran of the US Marines. Survived by his brother, Norman Collingsworth of Kingston , TN; and his beloved dog, Chewy. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Faith Chapel Ministries building fund or Cookeville/Putnam County Animal Shelter.
Graveside services for Jack Terry, 70 of the Hurricane community of Jackson County, will be held Saturday, January 30 at the Terry and Gore Cemetery beginning at 1 PM. Bro. James Bybee will officiate at the services. Mr. Terry passed away on January 19, at his residence. He was born April 3, 1950, in Jackson County, TN, to the late Arvil C. Terry and Sylvia Savage Terry. On October 24, 1970, he was married to Gayle Terry, who survives. He worked as a mechanic. In addition to his wife, Jack is survived by his daughter, Cyndy Hornsby of Huntsville, AL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association by contacting the funeral home.
Memorial services for Charles Ray Young, age 80 of Cookeville, will be held on Saturday, January 30 at 1 pm at the Center Grove Church of Christ with Bro. Jimmy Anderson officiating. Mr. Young passed away on Friday, January 8 at his residence. He was the son of William Fred Young and Bessie Mae Flatt Young. He was a retired truck driver, member of the Teamsters Union and the Church of Christ. He enjoyed fishing, watching westerns, riding a trike, playing cards at the Senior Citizens Center and going to auctions. Survivors include his wife Ruth Jackson Young of Cookeville; son, Todd (Vivian) Young of Clovis, CA; step-children, Mona (Joe Hamilton) Taylor, Mike (Patricia) Jackson and Monica (Phillip) Robinson. Visitation will begin at 10 am until service time at 1.
Funeral services for Betty Marie Brown Flatt of Bloomington Springs, will be held on Sunday at 2:00pm from the Chapel of Whitson Funeral Home. Bro. James Bowlin will officiate at the service and family and friends will serve as Pallbearers. Mrs. Flatt passed away on January 27. Betty worked at Fleetguard until she retired. She spent her retired Years at home enjoying her family, quilting and doll making. She was a Member of the Bloomington Springs Church Of Christ. Betty’s famous saying was “Life Goes On”. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Oplis Blackie Flatt, Three children, Gary and wife Dean Flatt of Cookeville, Randall and wife Linda Flatt of Cookeville, Sandra Martin of Baxter and the late Velinda Flatt. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, on Sunday from 12:00pm until time of services at 2:00pm.
