Obituaries For Friday, January 22
Betty Deloise Clinton, 55 of Cookeville, passed away Tuesday morning, January 19, 2021 at her home. Memorial services are planned for a later date. Betty was born March 10, 1965 in Detroit to the late Tommy Loyd and Judy Deloise Comstock Scott. She was preceded in death by mother Judy and step-father Ralph Chilton, son Matthew Tinsley, grandson Elijah Tinsley. She was a former presser with Houromatic of Cookeville. She enjoyed the outdoors, being with family and friends. Betty fought a hard battle against cancer, she still won going home in victory. Survivors include daughter Jessica (Donald) Anderson of Cookeville, step-mother Janet Scott of Cookeville.
Private graveside services and interment for Dr Pete Helton, age 87 of Cookeville will be held Saturday January 23, 2021 at the Sloan Valley Cemetery in Sloans Valley, Kentucky. Dr. Helton died Thursday January 14, 2021 at 7:50 pm in Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services for Mr. Michael Thomas Clark, age 70 of Middletown, Ohio, will be held Saturday, January 23rd at 11:00 a.m. at Algood Family Event Center. Interment with Military Honors rendered by the Veterans Honor Guard will follow at Algood City Cemetery. He was born March 1, 1950 in Dayton, to the late James Elmer Clark and Lona Marie Maxwell Clark. Mike served his country in the United States Army and was a Vietnam War Veteran. He worked as a draftsman with Burger Iron and Mound Steel.
Mr. Clark passed away Wednesday morning, January 20th at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. His family will receive friends Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the Algood Family Event Center.
Funeral services for Vada Elizabeth Brewington, 73 of Michigan, formerly of Baxter, will be 11:00 am Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Presley Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Rodgers Cemetery on Bryant Ridge Road Baxter. She passed away Monday, January, 18, 2021 at her residence in MIchigan after a long battle with kidney disease. She was born October 22, 1947 in Baxter, TN, the daughter of William and Lillian (Lynn) Alcorn. Vada married the love of her life Roy D. Brewington July 31, 1967, they had 54 good years and he survives. They had two children Roy Kevin Brewington and Susan Ann Mida. Vada will always be remembered for her love of family, cooking, camping, sewing and crafts. She was a member of Trinity Free Will Baptist church where she lovingly worked beside her husband and the Ladies Auxiliary for many years. In addition to her loving husband, survivors include: her children, Roy Kevin (Brenda) Brewington of Ypsilanti, Michigan and Susan (Raymond) Mida of Chelsea, Michigan. The family will receive friends from 9:00 am until the time of service.
Graveside services and interment for Mrs. Jeweldean (Judy) Cowan Hutchison, 93 of Cookeville, will be held at 12:00PM, Saturday, January 23 at the Algood Cemetery with Pastor Bill Stone officiating. Mrs. Hutchison passed away Wednesday at NHC, January 20. Judy graduated as Valedictorian of her class of 1945 from Algood High School. She worked in Detroit Michigan and came back to Cookeville and worked more jobs. Her last job was at the Bank of Putnam County as a Teller for 17 years. Retiring at the age of 73. She loved her church family and Sunday School Class. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Robbins, of Cookeville; and twin sister, Emogene Sorrels of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Cookeville, TN. Or your favorite charity.
A memorial service for Irene Marie Hawkins, age 82 of Gainesboro, will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2021, at 1:00 pm at the Gainesboro First United Methodist Church, 302 S. Main St. Gainesboro. Masks are required. On Tuesday, January 19, 2021, Irene Marie Hawkins, loving wife and mother of four children, passed away. Born on July 4, 1938 in Quakertown, PA to the late Michael and Olga Kanefski. Irene was the widow of Daniel Chapkovich of Allentown, PA. They were married for more than 40 years. She remarried Jerry Hawkins of Gainesboro, TN on May 1, 2016. She was beloved by her community and volunteered often. She loved spending time in the garden and taking care of her friends, family and animals. Irene is survived by 3 sons and 1 daughter: Daniel Brian (Sherry Shoemaker) Chapkovich of Allentown, PA, Stephen Michael (Deborah Garrett) Chapkovich of Cookeville, TN, Mark Edward Chapkovich of Whitleyville, TN, Rosemarie Bruce of Boynton Beach, FL. Irene was a fierce advocate for animal welfare. In lieu of flowers and plants, the family is requesting that donations be made to one of the following: ASPCA, The Human Society and PETA.
Funeral services for Ronnie Scott, 41, of the McCoinsville community of Jackson County, TN, will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2021, at 1 P.M. at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro, TN. Burial will follow in the Pharris Cemetery in the McCoinsville community of Jackson County. He passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at his residence. He was born October 27, 1979, in Jackson County, TN, to Genie Mae Scott and the late Charles Ward Scott. On December 12, 2015, he was married to Amanda Nicole Scott, who survives. He was the technology director of the Jackson County School System. He was a member of the Tannehill Lodge #133 Free Masons, Boy Scouts, and the Church of Christ. Survivors include his Wife: Amanda Nicole Scott of Gainesboro, TN; 1 Son: Logan Macklin of Gainesboro, TN; 1 Daughter: Iris Macklin of Gainesboro, TN; his Mother: Genie Mae Scott of Gainesboro. The family will receive friends on Friday from 4 P.M. – 8 P.M., with Masonic Service at 6 P.M. Visitation will also be Saturday from 11 A.M. until time of services.
Funeral services for George William Ray, age 76 of Monterey, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday January 23 at Horner Funeral Home in Monterey. Pastor Rick Lacy and Pastor Scott Parkison will officiate. Interment will follow at Ray Cemetery. George passed from this life on Jan. 20, 2021 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born on March 1, 1944 in Overton County, Tennessee to the late James Walter Ray and Auda Marie Swack Ray. George was retired from The Tennessee Department of Forestry as a Forest Ranger. His work career included Lamb (Gulf) Oil Company, many construction and mechanic jobs. He was a master carpenter and craftsman. He loved to make furniture and always took requests from the grandchildren. He owned a small sawmill and a lot of his furniture was made from the timber on his farm. Cedar Springs Woodworking was co-owned by George and his son, Greg Ray. He is survived by his wife, Drucilla Williams Ray, whom he married September 23, 1967; daughter, Angela Ray; son, Greg (Denice) Ray all of Monterey. The family will receive friends Saturday from 11 a.m. until service time. Please practice social distancing and the use of masks are appreciated.
Funeral services for Mr. Terry Alan Selby age 63 of Sparta, will be conducted 1:00pm Saturday, January 23, 2021 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Stringtown Cemetery. He went to be with the Lord at 7:00am on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at his residence. Terry was born August 22, 1957 in Sparta, Tennessee to the late Norman Burl & Clara Marie Higgenbottom Selby. He owned his own excavation company and operated heavy equipment all of his life. Terry was a car enthusiast. He enjoyed and competed in drag racing, passing that love for cars and racing on to his two sons. As much as he loved cars and sports, his real love was spoiling his two grandsons. Terry attended East Sparta Church of God. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his brother LaVaughn Selby and wife Teresa Broom Selby. The family is taking comfort in knowing that he is reunited in heaven with his wife Teresa one day before what would have been her 62nd birthday. The family will receive friends Friday from 4-8:00pm at Hunter Funeral Home. Charles Dotson will officiate. In consideration of the health and safety of family and friends, the family respectfully asks that guests visiting the funeral home please wear a mask and adhere to social distancing guidelines. Graveside Services for Mrs. Casey Nicole Carr, age 38, of Livingston, will be conducted 2 p.m., Sunday, January 24 from the Zion Hill Cemetery. Bro. Timmy Ray and Bro. Tommy Johnson will officiate. Mrs. Carr passed from this life on Thursday morning, January 21 in Livingston. She was born in Livingston on April 13, 1982 to Randy Gentry and Teresa Cox Johnson. She was a 2001 graduate of Livingston Academy, and a member of the Church of Christ. Casey loved her family and taking care of other people. She also enjoyed reading her bible, she was a free spirit and loved life. Casey leaves behind her husband, Jamin Carr, of Livingston; sons, Tyler Boswell of Monroe, and Jaydin Cummings of Static, KY; daughter, Alyssa Carr of Livingston; step-son, Preston Carr of Cookeville. The family will welcome friends on Sunday, from 12 noon until time to leave for the graveside at Speck Funeral Home.

She Is Survived By Her Husband Of Almost 62 Years, Lee Earl Walker Of Monterey; Son, Chris Walker And Companion, Kristie Welch Of Monterey. The Family Will Receive Friends At Goff Funeral Home On Sunday, January 24 From 12:00 PM Until Time Of Services At 2:00 PM.
Funeral Services for Sharon Mathis Hall, 62 of Antioch and formerly of Baxter, will be Monday, January 25 at 10 AM at the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Thurman Mathis Family Cemetery. Miss Hall died Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was a 1977 graduate of Upperman High School in Baxter and a member of the Church of Christ. She was last employed with Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Food and Nutrition. Sharon was a homemaker and great mom; she enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, working with computers, playing board games, cards and computer games. She loved spending time with family and friends. Holidays were especially important to her. She helped with other patients at Life Care Center in Sparta. She loved riding through the Smoky Mountains. Survivors in addition to her mother include sons, Brandon (Jennifer) Mathis, Todd Mathis all of Baxter, and Jonathan Hall of Cookeville. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 8 PM and after 8 AM Monday.
Private Graveside Service for Bruce Anthony Brown, 55 of Cookeville, will be held Tuesday, January 26 at Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery with full military honors. Bro. Donald C. Moss will officiate. Bruce was born Wednesday, August 18, 1965, in Gainesboro, Tennessee, and he was the son of the late James Verlon Brown and Mabel Marshall (Stewart) Brown. Bruce was a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, sportsman, and loved the outdoors. Bruce proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and was in combat in Desert Shield, Desert Storm, and the Panama Conflict, and was an expert marksman. He was loved by all that knew him and he will be greatly missed. Bruce is survived by, Mother, Mabel Brown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Scarlett Jude McCurry Education Fund at First National Bank of Tennessee, Sparta Location.
Graveside Services for Mrs. Villa Hembree Ray Quick Finney, age 95, of Winterhaven Florida, and formerly of Overton County will be conducted 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 26, 2021 from the Ruth’s Chapel Cemetery. Rev. Shannon Scott will officiate. Mrs. Villa passed from this life on Wednesday, January 13, 2021. She was born October 3, 1925 to the late George Floyd and Martha Melinda Hembree Ray. Villa leaves behind her children, Keith Quick, Linda Quick Scott and husband William Sr.; Michael Quick, and LaJuana Finney Block. The family will welcome friends at the graveside.
A memorial service for George Pappas, 84, of Cookeville, is planned for Saturday, January 30th at 11 AM at Heavenly Host Lutheran Church located at 777 South Willow Avenue in Cookeville. Pastor Andrew Smith is officiating. Mr. Pappas passed away on January 16th peacefully at home in his sleep with his wife, daughter and son-in-law by his side. In 1953, George enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, actively serving until 1956 and in the reserves until 1961. George was a professional truck driver, driving for Parco Foods among others. After “retirement” he drove a flower delivery truck which he truly enjoyed. George started chasing Rosi in 1976 and she finally gave in and married him on his birthday in 1981. He always said it was the best present he ever had! When George and Rosi moved from Michigan City to Cookeville in 2004, they felt like they had “hit the jackpot” as their new neighbors quickly became like family. George is survived by his wife and best friend Rosi, daughters Julie Ann (J.D.) Elmquist, Jill (Nick) Landers and Beth (Craig) Brown. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Kindred Hospice for their tender care of George for the last several months, especially Jenni and Nikki.
