Monterey Board Of Alderman New Member Sworn In

The vacant second ward seat for Monterey’s Board of Alderman has been filled by Jim Whittaker.

Whittaker said he wants to play a part in the future growth of the town by utilizing its natural features.

“I am always excited about anything that is good for Monterey,” Whittaker said. “I am really excited about Bee Rock and Meadow Creek Lake Park. I think that is going to be really great to bring people to the town and that is what we need.”

Whittaker was sworn into the position during Monday’s meeting after winning the vote against candidate Shannon McGee 4-2 with one abstaining member. One idea Whittaker said he would like to pursue is a Monterey golf course.

“I think the town has really moved forward in the past few years,” Whittaker said. “I have only been up here the past 10 years. I lived in Nashville for 40, but I have seen lots of improvements as far as the town goes.”

Whittaker said he was not seeking to serve as alderman, but fellow second ward Alderman Mark Farley asked him to join. Whittaker accepted the nomination since he is retired and would like to give back to the town. Whittaker was born in Monterey and worked insulation for about 25 years in Nashville.
