Algood Prepares to Decide on City Park Design Company

Algood is looking at two different design teams for implementing the city’s park design plan.

City Administrator Keith Morrison said both Kimley-Horn and Clinton Engineering’s plans will be presented Tuesday night. Morrison said the city council will need to decide which firm to move forward with.

“Which one of the companies that we will negotiate with to oversee the design on phase one and the implementation of the project,” Morrison said. “One thing I did ask both companies is to be specific on whether they had worked with the Blue Cross Blue Shield Healthy Places Grant and both of the companies had done that.”

Algood has submitted for a $750,000 Blue Cross Blue Shield grant to pay for a large portion of phase one. Morrison said a Healthy Built Grant has been submitted for $85,000 towards bathrooms lighting and a walkway.

“We’ll have some left over components that we’ll have to do and pay for,” Morrison said. “Put in an entrance and a parking lot, but if we accomplish these two things, those will do two large portions of phase one for us.”

Morrison said Monday night that there is no dollar amount set for phase one.

“We’ll negotiate a dollar amount and bring a contract back for approval next month hopefully,” Morrison said.

Clinton Engineering worked with GRW Engineering to create Algood’s park master plan in 2018. Morrison said both Kimley-Horn and Clinton Engineering have worked in the local area, including Cookeville.
