Overton County Schools Announce Online Lunch Applications

Applications for reduced priced meals for Overton County Schools can now be completed online.

Overton County School Nutrition Director Patty Dale said the electronic application can be processed daily while paper applications take weeks.

“The parents can actually go online to Lunchapplication.com, and fill out the application,” Dale said. “The application does straight to me, and I can have it approved by the next day if they do it online.”

The application will ask for your household income, and if you receive SNAP benefits. Dale said each school will have computers available for parents to complete the application.

“It is pretty much based on their income,” Dale said. “But, it will also ask if you are a direct certification or do you receive SNAP benefits. If they have those benefits, they get approved for the free meals even quicker.”

Last year, 30 percent of the student body submitted applications online. Dale said this year, the school system wants to start transitioning to paperless and get to 50 percent of applications processed online.

“When they do a paper application, I have to enter all the information and determine if they qualify for full price, reduced or full paid and state why,” Dale said. “If i do not have to type that in, the process is faster.”

Only one application is needed per household. Completing a new application does not erase debt and must be filled out yearly. If income changes in the middle of a school year, a new application must be submitted.

“Since March 23rd, our lunch ladies of served 217,338 meals before school started,” Dale said. “I am proud of the lunch ladies, and this will help us be more efficient.”
