The Cookeville City Council amended its personnel policy Thursday night to eliminate an extra day of vacation for employees who do not use any sick leave.
“We believe this benefit may encourage employees to come to work when they are sick to avoid losing that wellness day,” Cookeville Human Resources Director Gail Fowler said. “This is especially concerning during this current pandemic.
Fowler said employees also have the option of receiving equivalent pay under the wellness leave policy.
Fowler said the benefit change would also provide cost savings during the remainder of the season.
The council also approved a $19,790 bid to repaint Cookeville’s Administrative Building. Council members approved a consulting agreement to engineer several projects for the electrical department. Director Carl Haney said the $45,000 contract covers several substation projects.
