Tennessee Tech students and faculty marched silently across campus Tuesday morning as a gesture to honor Martin Luther King Jr.
The Omnicrom Phi Chapter fraternity hosted the annual event.
Chapter President Christopher Dodson said the short walk allowed him to focus on Dr. King’s influence.
“Today is significant because this is a reflection upon vision,” Owens said. “It’s a vision given to Dr. King and what he was. He was a willing vessel and he listened to the call about his life, and we all have to learn from that.”
Dodson said the chapter has been hosting this event for over ten years. Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Robert Owens said this is a significant event for the university.
“The work that Dr. King was a part of when you speak of the civil rights movement, it has given me access in ways that had there not been a civil rights movement I would not have access. You know, I’m a high level administrator at this university. That’s only been made possible through folks like Dr. King,” Owens said.
About 20 people participated in the march, including Tech President Phil Oldham.
