Father And Son Veterans To Speak At Tech Graduation

The Tennessee Higher Education Commission director and his father will serve as co-commencement speakers at the Tennessee Tech graduation ceremony this Saturday.

Mike Krause has served as THEC director since 2016, overseeing a $2.1 billion budget and $500 million student aid.

His father, Mike Krause Sr., graduated from Tennessee Tech in 1992 with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.

In addition to his responsibility as THEC director, Krause served as the founding Executive Director of the Tennessee Promise program. He also served for eight years in the U.S. Army and Tennessee Army National Guard where he completed three combat tours with the 101st Airborne Division.

Krouse Sr. served in the U.S. Navy as a Naval aircrewman before retiring as master chief petty officer after 26 years of service.

Both men will speak in front of 1,100 graduating students during two ceremonies scheduled for 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.
