Obituaries For Tuesday, December 3

Funeral services for Thomas “TOM” Eugene Banker, 74 of Silver Point will be Tuesday, December 3 at 7 PM at Boma First Church of God. Graveside service and interment will be 11 AM Wednesday, December 4 at Smellage Memory Gardens in the Boma Community of Putnam County. Bro. Tim Sharp will officiate. Tom Banker passed away peacefully at home, Sunday morning, December 1, 2019 after a long illness with pulmonary fibrosis. Tom lived a full and eventful life he was born March 10, 1945 in Knoxville to the late L. Eugene and Katherine Thomas Banker. At the age of 21, Tom entered the United States Air Force and served 6 months in Vietnam. He was with Strategic Air Command as an Auto-track Radar Technician. After completing his enlistment, Tom returned to Tennessee with his young family and began working for several years with Tennessee Valley Authority as an Electrical Engineering Technician. The family moved from Kingston to Silver Point in 1978. He then transferred to the US Army Corps of Engineers in 1985 and worked until his retirement in 2003 as Senior Electronic Technician. Tom had always been active an active gardener and farmer and spent the years after his retirement working on his farm in Silver Point. He was a great steward of the land and was named Tennessee Conservationist of the Year. He was a member of Boma First Church of God.

Funeral services for Mrs. Isabell Conley, age 88, of Cookeville, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday December 4 in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Pastor Grant Pennington will officiate. Interment will follow at West Cemetery in the Burgess Falls Community. Mrs. Conley passed away Saturday November 30, 2019 at her home. She was born September 22, 1931 in Cookeville to the late Rollis Bevey Clouse and Pearlie Lee Finley Clouse. Mrs. Conley was retired cashier having worked at several local groceries in Cookeville. She was a member of Caney Fork Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Hershell Clouse, Casto Clouse, Opal Pinkston,. Nellie Whitaker, Beacher Clouse, Arnold Clouse, Arvil Floyd Clouse, Wanetta Phy, Willard Clouse, Rufus Finley Clouse, Obey Gene Clouse, Kathleen Clouse, Earl Clouse, and an infant sister. Mrs. Conley is survived by her husband Douglas Conley; three daughters, Janice (Cecil) Garrett, Arlene (Joe) Spicer and Patsy (Jerry) Peek; son, Buddy (Joann) Reed; 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren, and 13 great-great grandchildren. Her family will receive friends Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Funeral Services for Mr. Louie Harold Pryor, age 85, of Indianapolis, Indiana and formerly of Overton County will be conducted 12 noon, Wednesday December 4, 2019 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Bro. Randy Pickens will officiate. Burial to follow in the Fellowship Cemetery. Harold passed from this life on Saturday, November 30, 2019 from the Community South Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born in Overton County on April 22, 1934, at home to the late Edward Calvin & Audie Burgess Pryor. He worked at the Chevrolet Bus and Truck Plant for many years. Harold enjoyed mowing his yard, local auctions, and watching old westerns on tv. He loved making furniture for his friends and family. Harold leaves behind his daughter, Lisa Gail Goins & husband Brian of Indianapolis, IN; sons, David Lynn Pryor & wife Lisa of Knightstown, IN, and Harold Edward “Eddie” Pryor and wife Lena of Indianapolis, IN; 1 granddaughter; 1 great-grandson; sister, Irene Gaw of Cookeville. In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Helen Copeland Pryor; and several brothers and sisters. The family will welcome friends on Tuesday evening, from 5 until 9 p.m. at Speck Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Aaron Winston Dyer, 79 of Cookeville will be Wednesday, December 4 at 1 PM from the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday after 11 AM until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Dyer died Saturday morning, November 30, 2019 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born July 21, 1940 in Putnam County to the late Jennings W. and Emogene Robinson Dyer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by grandparents: Bert and Sallie Bettie Boyd Robinson, Willis and Pearlie Victoria Bryant Dyer and America “Merkie” Austin Dyer and a nephew Tim Dyer. He was a 1958 graduate of Baxter Seminary. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant with the Air Force with 20 years of service. He also retired from the Cookeville Post Office with 10 years of service. He was also a member of the Baxter Seminary/Upperman High Alumni Association. Bro. John Pippin will officiate. A Celebration Of Life service for Alton Dale “Big Al” Billingsley, age 72, of Cookeville will be held 12noon, Wednesday, December 4th at Baxter United Methodist Church with Pastor TJ Bennett officiating. Mr. Billingsley passed away Sunday, December 1, 2019 at his home in Cookeville, Tennessee following a brief illness.

Funeral services for Mr. Raymond Loyd Higgins, 78 of Cookeville, will be held Wednesday, December 4th at 1:00 p.m. at Dyer Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Davis Cemetery. Rev. Steve Brown will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 3rd from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and again Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Higgins died Sunday, December 1, 2019 at Bethesda Health Care Center. He was born November 8, 1941 in Putnam County to the late Raymond Claude and Mattie Lou Willoughby Higgins. He served in the US Navy for four years and in the Reserve for two years. He worked in several factories and on the interstate as I-40 was built. He retired in 2004 from Tutco. He loved fishing, hunting and riding his motorcycle with his friends. Ray was a member of the Monterey Methodist Church and currently attended Scott Ave. Baptist Church.

Funeral services for Mrs. Phyllis Ilene Brown Medlin age 68 of Rickman, will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at 2 PM from the Chapel of the Hall Funeral Home of Livingston with burial to follow in the Netherland Cemetery in Rickman. Mrs. Medlin went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 1, 2019 at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Medlin was born in Knoxville on December 21, 1950 to the late Cecil and Ilene (Mainard) Brown. Phyllis worked as an Adoption Specialist for D C S and helped a many of children and parents, and soon to be adopted parents over the years; she went above and beyond her duties. She was loved by her family very much and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Survivors: Husband of 49 years, Lewis Medlin, 1 son Blake Medlin and wife Lucretia (Moore), and 1 daughter Heather (Medlin) Wright and her husband Jerrod. Phyllis is also survived by 3 grandson, Bailey and Bradon Medlin and Garrett Wright and 1 granddaughter Emily Wright. Other survivors include her brother Willard Brown and his wife Margaret and one sister in-law Cathy Medlin Dildine. Six nephews and many great nieces and great nephews also survive along with a host of other family and friends. Preceded in death: By her parents. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, December 3rd starting at 5 PM until 9 PM.

Funeral services for Mr. Charles Ward Scott, 82, of the McCoinsville community of Jackson County, TN, will be held at 2 P.M. on  Wednesday, December  4, 2019, at Anderson – Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro. Burial will follow in the Pharris  Cemetery in the McCoinsville community of Jackson County. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2 P.M. – 6 P.M., and Wednesday from 11 A.M. until time of services.

Funeral services for Mr. Harold E. Sherrell of Celina will be held on Wednesday December 04, 2019 at 1:00 PM from the Rock Springs Church of Christ in Celina, Clay Co., TN with burial to follow in the Williams Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday December 03,2019 starting at 12 noon. Mr. Harold’s body will be moved to the Rock Springs Church of Christ Wednesday morning with visitation starting there at 9:00 A.M. until time of the service at 1:00 P.M. Officiating will be Bro. Nathan Sherrell.

Funeral services for Charlotte Kay Hancock, 77 of Baxter, will be Thursday, December 5 at 11 AM from the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Palmer Cemetery in Silver Point. Bro. Dwight Henry will officiate. Mrs. Hancock died Saturday morning, November 30, 2019 at Overton County Health & Rehab in Livingston. She was born December 7, 1941 in Putnam County to the late Wilbur Frank and Laveda Mary Maxwell Waller. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sons Jerry Lee Herron and Jeffery Lynn Herron, grandchildren Brandi and Brian Herron, brother Wilbur “BUD” Waller. She was a retired seamstress.

Funeral services for Gordon Presley, age 77, of Cookeville will be held 11:00 am Thursday, December 5th, 2019 at Paran Church with Pastors Danny Whitson and Richard Bond officiating. Interment will follow in Paran Cemetery with Tennessee Highway Patrol Honors. Gordon passed away Monday, December 2, 2019 at his home in Cookeville following an extended illness. He was born Monday, March 30, 1942 in Baxter to the late Willard B. Presley and Gilberta Rodgers Presley. Gordon will always be remembered as a loving, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He attended Paran church where he was a member. He retired as a Lieutenant from the Tennessee Highway Patrol after 33 years of service. He enjoyed farming, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed Southern Gospel singing and attending any event where the Caravan Singers were performing. In addition to his parents, Kenneth Gordon Presley was preceded in death by an infant son, Terry Dale Presley and a brother, Paul David Presley. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Bettie Burgess Presley; daughter, Genetta Presley Moore of Franklin; grandson, Kyle Moore of Nashville; granddaughter, Mackenzie (Logan) Bray of Smyrna; 2 great-grandchildren, Wade Keith Bray and Maci Ella Bray of Smyrna; sister, Carolyn (Dave) Bartholomew of Arizona; many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 4, 2019, 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM at Presley Funeral Home, and at Paran Church Thursday, December 5, 2019, 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM prior to the Service.

Funeral services for Mrs. Norma Jean Gardner, age 86, of Gulf Shores, Alabama, formally of Quebeck, will be conducted 12:00pm Saturday, December 7, 2019 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. She passed away Friday, November 29th, after an extended illness. Mrs. Gardner was born October 25, 1933 in Sparta, TN to the late Norman Rice and Addie B. Emerton. She was married 50 years to James Ray Gardner. She was retired from the Packaging Division of Nestle Corporation. She loved to watch Hallmark shows, quilting, and send cards to family, friends and fellow church members. She was a member of Quebeck Church of Christ.The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00am until service time at Hunter Funeral Home. Don Shuster will officiate the service.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lillie Ann Philson, age 76, of Cookeville, will be at 11 a.m. Monday December 9 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Mike Casstevens will officiate. Interment will follow in the West Cemetery.
Her family will receive friends Monday from 10 a.m. until service time. Mrs. Philson passed away Sunday December 1, 2019 at Bailey Manor in Cookeville.
