The Sound of Hope bell ringing for the Cookeville Rescue Mission gets underway this week.
Executive Director Bruce Bailey said it’s the mission’s largest fundraiser of the year.
“Each year the mission serves 1,100 unique individuals on average. Just for reference, we’ve already served 1,400 people this year,” Bailey said. “So we’re well over our average in terms of the people coming to our doors. That bell ringing activity helps us throughout the year to provide all that we need to give to people who are needing our assistance.”
12 locations throughout Algood and Cookeville will host bell ringers this year. Bailey said folks can sign up to volunteer by visiting the Cookeville Rescue Mission website.
“A lot of times people will stand one person at a time at one of our kettle locations. Sometimes, families will go out together and volunteer,” Bailey said. “Church groups will also come out in groups to keep each other company.”
The mission has also requested volunteers to help count the money that’s collected each day from the bell ringing. You can contact the rescue mission if you would like to volunteer for that job.
The Sound of Hope bell ringing begins November 22 and runs through December 24.
