Clay County Anti-Drug Coalition Awarded $125,000 Grant

The Clay County Anti-Drug Coalition received $125,000 from the federal government earlier this week.

Executive Director Jamie Colson said the grant funding supports a number of drug and alcohol prevention programs.

“We use a lot of these funds for our SADD, which is the Students Against Destructive Decisions organization,” Colson said. “We use that funding for a lot of the different conferences and things that they go to. It really would have hurt us if we hadn’t got it again this year.”

The Drug-Free Communities Support Program funding comes from the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy. Colson said the coalition had to re-apply for the grant after receiving the monies for the past five years.

“We’ve been waiting for a while for this, so I’m glad they finally announced it,” Colson said. “It usually starts the beginning of October, so they were a little behind this year. I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that they had finally announced the awards for it.”

A total of 12 anti-drug coalitions in the state received funding from the grant program, including the Power of Putnam Anti-Drug Coalition.
