Drive-thru flu shot clinics begin later this month at the Putnam County Health Department.
Director Lisa Bumbalough said it’s an opportunity for residents to receive the vaccination while sitting inside their vehicle.
“We’ve probably been doing this for eight or nine years. It’s a regular thing and we have a lot of folks that request this,” Bumbalough said. “It’s very easy to come through in the morning before you go to work or on your lunch hour. Of course, our message is that you want to protect yourself and everyone around you, so we want everyone to get vaccinated.”
Staff will be set up under the health department’s covered canopy during the October 15 event. Customers will enter the parking lot and follow a designated route to receive their flu shot.
The health department will hold additional drive-thru flu shot clinics on October 31, Nov. 7, Nov. 19 and Dec. 10. Bumbalough said there’s no need for an appointment and customers should wear a short-sleeve shirt when coming to receive the vaccine.
“We will bill insurance plans, so bring your insurance card,” Bumbalough said. “We’re open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at each of those clinics. If you can’t make it to one of those drive through clinics, we are doing flu shots everyday at the health department on a walk-in basis. You can get those from 7:30 a.m to 4 p.m. any day of the week.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone six months of age and older should get a flu vaccine every year.
