Monterey Alderwoman Amy Martin resigned from her position Monday evening.
A letter addressed to the board said Martin would focus her attention on other opportunities.
Aldermen voted to appoint Alex Garcia to fill the vacant Ward 1 seat during Monday night’s meeting. Garcia said he looks forward to the opportunity to serve the citizens of Monterey.
“I’m well-rounded and kind of do a little bit of everything,” Garcia said. “I own a business here in Monterey and I also work for the Putnam County School Board, so Hopefully I can bring something to the table.”
Garcia will serve the remainder of Martin’s term, which expires in 2022. Aldermen JJ Reels nominated Garcia to fill the open position.
“I’ve verified that he lives in that Ward and I think he would be a great candidate,” Reels said.
The board unanimously approved the appointment.
