‘Christmas Movie Memories” will be the theme for the 53rd Cookeville-Putnam County Christmas Parade.
Randy Porter is the Putnam County Mayor and chairman of the Parade Committee. He said the new theme gives a wide variety of options for float designs.
“One of the members came up with Christmas movies. We started thinking about it for a while and we thought that would open up a lot,” Porter said. “We feel like almost everyone has a favorite Christmas movie. It may be one from your childhood or it could be one that recently came out. We thought it would be a great thing to have and hopefully it will help to continue to increase the Christmas parade.”
The parade route begins on Washington and 6th Street before turning right on Washington and Broad, and ending at the Cookeville Depot Museum. Porter said the committee has issued a challenge for businesses located along the parade route.
“We’re doing a contest for businesses to decorate their storefront as part of the theme, so we’re going to be giving money away for that,” Porter said. “We’re going to continue to have prize money for the top float and each top float in about seven different categories. We want to do everything we can to make the Christmas parade the very best it can be.”
The parade will take place Saturday, December 14 at 6 p.m. The committee set a Monday, December 16th rain date. Entry forms for parade participation can be picked up beginning October 11 at the Chamber of Commerce building.
