The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has called for a voluntary load reduction as the state experiences a heat spell.
Cookeville Electric’s Karen Brown said customers should consider reducing energy usage during this time.
“The thermostat, TVA’s recommendation is 78-degrees,” Brown said. “You can also reduce lighting and turn off any non-essential loads.”
The voluntary reduction is part of TVA’s Emergency Load Curtailment Program (ELCP). Brown said TVA kicks the program into action during events that cause peak demand for power.
