Pine Haven Elementary To Get New Entrance

Fentress County’s Pine Haven Elementary School will soon have a new entrance.

Jamestown Mayor Lyndon Baines said the city recently approved a right-of-way agreement for the project.

“Right now, when the kids go to school in the morning or get out of school in the evening, the traffic is backed up from Pine Haven almost to York Institute,”  Baines said. “It’s just been crazy, so our city engineer worked with York Institute and the state, and the state let us have some land there. We’re going to build a road going in and coming out of the Pine Haven School where they (parents) can pick up and drop off their kids. That should alleviate the problem on Main Street at Pine Haven Elementary School.”

The Fentress County Board of Education has agreed to pay for a portion of the project. Baines said the city and county will supply manpower and machinery for the work.

“It’s a good project that we need to be doing and the main reason if for the safety of the kids at Pine Haven,” Baines said. “Someone is going to get hurt eventually with all the traffic we have at the school. Pine Haven is one of the biggest schools that we have in the county.”

Officials hope to begin the project sometime next month. Baines said crews could finish the project within two weeks.
