The Fentress County Solid Waste Department will soon be moving from above the Pinckley Building.
County Executive Jimmy Johnson said officials decided to relocate the department after receiving numbers for ADA renovations.
“With ADA compliance, we were going to have to spend over $100,000 to renovate it,” Johnson said. “So, we’re having to construct a new recycling building because our recycling facility burnt. We have been able to establish the offices out there, so there will be a big savings for the taxpayers of Fentress County.”
The Highway 127 recycling facility burnt to the ground earlier this year. Johnson said the county has begun the process of rebuilding the center.
“They have everything removed down to the concrete, and they are going to pour a cap on top of the existing floor,” Johnson said. “They (insurance company) have ordered the new building and it should be here in January or February.”
The Fentress County Commission gave the green light last week for the design and development phase to begin for the solid waste department relocation project.
