Memorial services for George Irving Wells, age 89, of Sparta will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 10th at Friendship United Methodist Church with Reverend Carl Stiglich, Sr. and Reverend Robert Baker officiating. All are welcome to attend and celebrate George’s life. Mr. Wells passed away Friday, September 6, 2019 at Saint Thomas Highlands Hospital in Sparta. He was born Friday, December 20, 1929 in Eldred, New York to the late Earl Irving Wells and Ada Myers Wells. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Carole, his brother Wayne Wells and sisters Berniece Haas and Dorothy Wells. George is survived by his children, Cheri Shields (Patrick) of Eagle River, WI; Suzi Nelson (Tim) of Robbinsdale, MN; Lori Eyre of Mt. Prospect, IL; and Roger Wells (Cheryl) of Cookeville, his sister Norma Aaron of Durham, NC; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren (and one on the way!) and nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 10, 2019, 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at Friendship United Methodist Church. Funeral services for Mrs. Curtis Marie Ward Sullivan, age 93 of Sparta, will be conducted 1pm Tuesday September 10, 2019 at Liberty Baptist Church with burial in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery. She passed away Saturday morning September 7, 2019 at Life Care Center of Sparta. Mrs. Sullivan was born January 18, 1926 in the Peeled Chestnut Community to the late James Marvin and Esther Hutchings Ward. She married Herd Estell Sullivan, Sr. in 1949 and was a teacher in the White County School System for 43 years. Mrs. Sullivan was a dedicated member of Liberty Baptist Church and enjoyed serving as their piano player. After her retirement, she found joy in traveling, being a substitute teacher, and volunteer work for the hospital and other organizations. She was a proud member of the Retired Teachers Association and DAR. Mrs. Sullivan was devoted to God, her church, and serving others. The family will receive friends Monday from 3-8pm at the church. Ricky Scott will officiate the service.

Graveside services for Hazel Pauline McLean, 94, of Sparta, will be held at Morgan City Cemetery in Morgan, Georgia on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at 2 pm Eastern time. She passed away Thursday, September 05, 2019 in Sparta, TN. Hazel was born in Chico, TX on May 2, 1925 to the late Alaska and Minnie Long Page.

Funeral services for Mr. Danny Lynn Margeson, age 57 of Sparta, will be held at 11am, Wednesday, September 11, 2019, in the chapel of Oak Lawn Funeral Home with Bro. Nathan Hawkins and Bro. Jason Graham officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Danny was born in Sparta on August 25, 1962, the son of the late James Edward Margeson and Reba Dell Hooper Margeson. He passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his family. Surviving family members include the following: mother – Reba Dell Hooper Margeson; son – Travis Lynn Margeson; daughters – Jennifer Denise Smith; Yonna Mishon Angel and David; grandchildren – Michael Briar Margeson, Daniel Slade Margeson, Juwain Smith and Brooklynn Wilkerson; sister – Donna Measles; nephew – Clifford Measles; special friend – Becky Clark. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4pm until 8pm at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Ms. Sonnetta Lynn “Sonny” Mabe, age 49 of Sparta, will be conducted 1:00pm Wednesday, September 11, 2019 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Taylors Providence Cemetery. She passed away Friday, September 6, 2019 at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital in Nashville. Sonny was born April 20, 1970 in Sparta, Tennessee to the late JD & Charlene Dunn Mabe. She was a former restaurant manager, with employment that included the Buckboard, Cracker Barrel, the Brick Oven and Sligo. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5-8:00pm at Hunter Funeral Home. Adam Smith will officiate.

Funeral Services for Michael Lee Thurman, age 58, of Livingston will be conducted 11 a.m., Saturday, September 14, 2019 from the First Christian Church in Livingston. Rev. James Shenko will officiate. Burial will be in the Overton County Memorial Gardens. Michael passed from this life on Saturday evening, September 7, 2019 from the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family, after a short battle with cancer. Mike was born on September 8, 1960, in Tipton, Indiana, to Sammy Ezell and Bobbie Jean Thurman. He was a passionate musician, and never turned down the chance to “pick” his guitar and sing a song for everyone. Mike graduated from Livingston Academy in 1978, and worked as a lab technician at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He married Amy Patricia Dewberry Thurman on April 18, 1987 and was happily married for 32 years. He and Amy loved to travel and spend time on the lake. The light of his life was his only daughter, Morgan. Mike always put others before himself, and spent his life serving his family and friends. Mike’s loved ones who remain are his wife, Amy of Livingston and loving daughter, Morgan Thurman Hale and husband Andrew of Knoxville; his parents, Sammy Ezell and Bobbie Jean Thurman of Allons; brothers, Keith “Simon” Thurman and wife Sherry of Cookeville, and Sammy Kent “Kenny” Thurman of Nashville. Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents, Pearlie and Sam Thurman, and Joe and Hauti Ledbetter, and sweet dog Lucy. The family will welcome friends on Friday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Livingston.
