The Town of Monterey may soon have a policy for social media use and internet posting.
Mayor Bill Wiggins said the city has considered adopting the policy for more than a year.
“This may be a little bit late, but we’ve got to rein in an establish a definite policy for the protection of the Town of Monterey,” Wiggins said.
Wiggins said the policy will help Monterey create an official website and legitimize certain social media sites.
“Monterey has a website, the police department and fire department have Facebook pages, and we’ve probably got some individuals out there discussing city business,” Wiggins said. “Information has it that we better establish a policy pronto. We need to get a grip on this and know exactly how to address it.”
The policy also addresses social media and internet conduct for city employees.
The Monterey Board of Mayor and Aldermen meet at 7 p.m. Monday to vote on the new policy,
