Residents Reminded To Lock Deadbolts After Home Burglary

Monterey authorities have asked residents to take extra precautions after someone burglarized a home Wednesday.

Police Chief Bill Randolph said citizens should be locking doors and watching their surroundings very closely.

“It’s my understanding that they gained entry by using a credit card or something on one of the doors. My first advice would be to make sure you use your deadbolts,” Randolph said. “If this one would have been deadbolted they wouldn’t have been able to gain entry.”

The burglary occurred between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m.at the intersection of South Walnut Avenue and West Stewart Avenue. Randolph said officers have not identified a suspect at this time.

“From the looks of it, I think this one was a crime of opportunity because some of the items they stole were food related,” Randolph said. “They left some high dollar items in there, so this might have been some people who were homeless and hungry.”

Anyone with information about the crime should contact the Monterey Police Department.
