Monterey will begin the process of building trails at Meadow Creek Lake Park on Saturday.
Cultural Administrator Julie Bohannon said a volunteer trail building day will officially kick off the project.
“We’ve been able to hire a trail builder that will instruct our volunteers on how to build a proper trail,” Bohannon said. “We’ll be starting that at 8:30 on Saturday morning at the Monterey Depot. There will be a power point and lots of education on how to use the tools. After that, we’ll get out to Meadow Creek and practice a little bit.”
Monterey used a $20,000 grant from Perdue Farms to pay for the trail building at the park. Knoxville-based Contour Trail Design will be heading up the project.
Bohannon said she hopes to schedule additional volunteer work days in the near future.
“We hope to be able to continue this program and build a proper trail,” Bohannon said. “We want people to be able to enjoy the area, but right now we need to build a trail so more of the park is accessible.”
Bohannon said people attending Saturday’s event should wear good shoes and long pants.
