A small delay has pushed back the start date for constructing a public housing complex in Cookeville.
Chris Cassetty is the Director of Operations for the Highlands Residential Services. He said final plans for the Oak Tree Towers project have not been approved by the City of Cookeville.
“We’re a little further behind than we intended to be, but the city is looking at our plans for us,” Cassetty said. “We want the city to sign off on the plans before we get started. That will minimize any changes once we hire a contractor.”
Oak Tree Towers will be a 50-unit midrise apartment complex on Buffalo Valley Road. Elderly residents will occupy the units once construction finishes.
Cassetty said HRS hopes to have the design plans finalized within the next couple of weeks.
“Right now it looks like we are going to be out for bid sometime in October,” Cassetty said. “The design has taken a little longer than we anticipated, but we hope to get back on track.”
HRS originally planned to begin construction this fall.
