Pikeville Man Indicted For Two Deaths In Cumberland County

A Cumberland County grand jury has indicted a Pikeville man for the deaths of two people earlier this year.

Authorities accuse John Patrick Fields of killing Makayla Laray Manning and Lowell Thomas Simmons in March.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said Fields shot Manning and two others on March 12 at a home on Vandever Road. Manning died at the scene and the two other victims received treatment at U.T. Medical Center.

Earlier that day, deputies found Simmons dead in a pile of trash along Critter Creek Road, about five miles from the home on Vandever Road. Court records indicate that Fields fatally beat Simmons two days before investigators found his body.

An arraignment hearing for Fields takes place September 13.
