Search crews have located four people who went missing while canoeing in Fentress County Sunday.
EMA Director James Bilbrey said searchers located the the individuals in Morgan County late Monday morning.
“The were off of Peter Ford Road, but on the Morgan County side,” Bilbrey said. “They weren’t injured and they are being brought out at this time.”
The group had launched their canoes on the Clear Fork stream Sunday afternoon. Bilbrey said multiple agencies began searching for the individuals at 11:30 p.m. Sunday.
“Three males and one female put in at the Gatewood Ford Bridge on the eastern side of Fentress County,” Bilbrey said. “They put in with canoes and were supposed to go down the river and come out at the Peter’s Ford Bridge, which according to the map is 5.81 miles. Last night, they never returned and never came out.”
The Tennessee Highway Patrol helicopter joined the search Monday Morning. THP officials said crews located the subjects shortly after the helicopter spotted the canoes in the water.
Bilbrey said additional information would be released at a later time.
