Federal Trial For Celina Doctor Rescheduled For April 2020

A judge has agreed to reschedule the trial for a Celina doctor facing federal drug charges.

65-year-old Gilbert Ross Ghearing’s trial would have taken place Tuesday, but lawyers moved to continue the case last month. Court documents state the continuance allows more time to review discovery materials and prepare for trial.

Authorities arrested Ghearing three months ago for allegedly violating the Controlled Substances Act. A criminal complaint accused the Livingston resident of prescribing Schedule II and Schedule IV drugs outside the usual course of practice and not for legitimate purposes.

The complaint states that the patients had exhibited a high potential for abuse, including multiple instances of overdoses.

U.S. District Judge William L. Campbell Jr. has scheduled the trial for April 21, 2020. If convicted, Ghearing faces up to 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine.
