A Monterey man landed behind bars late last week for allegedly strangling a woman.
The Monterey Police Department charged 61-year-old Richard Dale Barnes with aggravated assault Friday.
Officers responded to a Maple Street home after a 911 caller stated that a man had attacked her. According to an arrest report, an interview with the victim determined that Barnes had strangled the woman and used his fingers to gouge her eyes.
Barnes left the Putnam County Jail after posting $25,000 bond. He will make his first court appearance on September 23.
