An unidentified person suffered severe injuries Saturday after falling off a bluff at Cummins Falls State Park.
Jackson County EMA PIO Jeff Conn said the accident occurred after the young male disregarded safety orders from an on duty park ranger. Conn said the individual jumped over wooden safety rails before falling 50-feet and landing on a jagged rocky terrain.
A helicopter airlifted the patient to a level one trauma center due to the severity of his injuries. His condition remains unknown.
The gorge at Cummins Falls re-opened last week with new safety policies in place.
The state closed the gorge in June after a two-year-old Kentucky boy drowned during a flash flood event.
