Scammers Target Smithville Social Security Numbers

Smithville Police have reported cases of phone scammers claiming to be from the Social Security Administration.

A press release states the scammers warn victims that their social security numbers have been suspended. Scammers use this as a ploy to get money and personal data.

The Social Security Administration does not block or suspend numbers.

The release indicates that the Social Security Administration estimates that scammers call thousands of Americans every day.
